Overview

Ashfield was founded durring the late 17th century in early spring of the year 1580, by Zlkèdo Lockwood. The establishment of Ashfield was only bairly constructed. The sheer number of problems with its founding were enough to make several of the backers funding Ashfield 's construction back out of the project. Zlkèdo Lockwood pushed on reguardles, and Ashfield was finished, but starts off as a terible place to live.

Ashfield was built using the conventions of Sylvin durring the late 17th century. Naturaly, all settlmentss have their own look to them, and Ashfield is no diffrent. The town's buildings feature waddle and daub construction with good timber frames and a stone foundation protected by thatched or shingled rooves. Most buildings with second floors are built in such a way as to overhang into the streets on the upper floors for more space, as building size seems to be the primary indicator of wealth within the community. Most buildings are not decorated with any integral features, but instead use ivy, flowers, and other natural elements in planters of on trellices to breathe life into the structure they grow upon.

Ashfield is buildings are arranged arrounded highly ordered system of premissive flagstone streets which form hexical paterns, allowing the incides of the octagons to be common grounds for the buildings on the edges, be it for parkland, yardspace, plazas, or markets. The town is protected by a renforced stone fence which sits atop earthwork defences, for some of the best inexpencive defences a town of Ashfield 's size could have. Astonishigly, the well-designed, yet cheep are in pristine condishion, as if they had just been finished before you laied eyes upon them.

Your first impression of Ashfield proves to be right on the money. This town is where the rebels chose to settle. Fashion trends are quite simply the opposite of what’s popular in the other nearby communities. THis trend extends everywhere. Things that should be black are white, what would normally be square is organically curved, and what is typically unthinkable for polite society is more than welcome in this public square. Up to the logical limits, of course. There’s no flaying someone alive to eat their skin going on, but the women are dressed a little immodestly, the men are a little more emotional, and the food is all overly complex and terrible.

Civic Infrastructure

Ashfield has an Office of Civil Groundskeeping, which works to enforce local ordinances relating to the construction and upkeep up of all plant life, water features, and other natural decorations within Ashfield . They are also responsible for the maintenance of these features. Notably, the OCG is not responsible for Ashfield 's parks.

Ashfield has an Office of Civil Vicary, which is responsible for providing a livelyhood for all officialy recognised religious figures within Ashfield .

Ashfield has a Gravedigger's Guild, which is responsible for collecting the dead and laying them to rest according to all applicable laws and religious customs.

Ashfield has a Highwayman's Guild, which is tasked with maintaining the roads and highways leading into town as well as keeping them safe for travelers.

Ashfield has a monistary of an order of Civil Monks, who provide divine-related services to the general public and maintain Ashfield 's public wards, blessings, and other arcane systems.

Ashfield possesses an older civil lighting system consisting of street lamps. These lights provide nighttime illumination to most city streets.

Ashfield has a Parks and Recreation Department, which is responsible for the construction, management, and usage rights for all of its parks and parklands. They are not to be confused with the Office of Civil Groundskeeping as they do not hold authority over nor responsibility for Ashfield 's natural decorations nor waterways.

Ashfield has a public schooling program overseen by the Hall of Sages who has the responsibility of ensuring access to affordable high-quality education in all basic classes (Reading, Writing, Mathmatics, General Sciences, General Arcana, and Social Education) is made available to all citizens.

Ashfield has a public septic system, which allows its citizens to have indoor bathrooms. The septic system is overseen by the League of Sewerkeepers, who posses the legal authority to enforce all laws relating to the septic system, and are also tasked with its maintenance and upkeep.

Cultural Notes

Ashfield 's bank was built using a different architectural style from the rest of the town. The style used is known primarily for its use of abstraction and simplicity. Clean lines, right angles, and primary colors characterized this aesthetic and art movement expressed via architecture and paintings. Its design ethos allows only primary colors and non-colors, only squares and rectangles, only straight and horizontal or vertical lines. Vertical and horizontal lines are positioned in layers or planes that do not intersect, thereby allowing each element to exist independently and unobstructed by other elements. These seemingly impossible principals for an architectural style coalesces into structures which most experts find hard to put into words. It is not that their geometry is impossible, but rather the style's attempt at producing works only describable visually was most successful..

In Ashfield every night at precisely midnight every structure in town is engulfed by sailors fire until the end of the witching hour.

The Atomie near Ashfield are known to be quite timid.

Ashfield 's citizens partake in a curious ritual relating to their local kami. It takes place in spring and involves sacrificing an animal to channel Enchantment energies of tier 2 via divine sermons.
